7,686 patients were served with ACS information or patient programs in Wisconsin in 2008
Our Cancer Resource Network is available for cancer patients and caregivers for information, day-to-day help and emotional support 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. If you wake up at night, and need an answer we are there for you at 800-227-2345 or cancer.org
 
  •  Our unique Patient Navigators are trained specialists who provide confidential, free advice and referrals to programs and resources. We provided Navigator assistance to more than 5,700 unique cancer patients and caregivers in Wisconsin last year. We currently have Patient Navigators in:
    • Affinity Health System - Appleton
    • Sacred Heart Hospital/ Luther Midelfort Hospitals - Eau Claire
    • Gunderson Lutheran/Franciscan Skemp Hospitals - La Crosse
    • UW Comprehensive Cancer Center - Madison
    • Marshfield Clinic - Marshfield
    • Wheaton Franciscan and Columbia St. Mary’s Hospitals -Milwaukee
  •  We offer patient support services in local communities such as:
    • Reach to Recovery- trained volunteer breast cancer survivors offer comfort and help to breast cancer patients -statewide
    • Look Good...Feel Better- trained volunteer cosmetologists help women combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment – 70 locations throughout the state
    • Road to Recovery- volunteer drivers provide transportation to and from treatment to cancer patients who do not have a ride or who cannot drive themselves –Elkhorn, Janesville, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Monroe, Polk County, Racine, and West Bend
    • Man to Man- prostate cancer education and support program- Madison, Marshfield, Sheboygan, Stevens Point, and Wausau
    • I Can Cope- educational classes for people facing cancer –available on line at www.cancer.org/onlineclasses
  • Hozhoni Weekend, held at the Wisconsin Lion’s Camp in Rosholt Wisconsin for the past 25 years, is a camp for children with cancer and their families that provides a supportive and recreational environment. About 35 families attend the camp each year.
  • Our Youth Scholarship Program enables young survivors to demonstrate accomplishments in spite of illness. In 2009, 21 Wisconsin students were awarded Youth Scholarships.
  • The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Marshfield, Wisconsin provides free housing to patients and their caregivers receiving treatment away from home. More than 400 guests stayed at Hope Lodge over the last year, and more than 6,000 since the doors opened in spring of 2003.
  • The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Madison, WI – planning is under way, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics to bring a Hope Lodge to Madison.  It will serve patients from across Wisconsin.
